Playing Hookey For Hockey

What a perfect day – the weather, the golf course, the facilities and importantly the participants. All the right ingredients for taking the day off work, play some golf and raise a little money for Grandravine. The course was in great shape and even those of us who are less than real golfers manged some decent shots. (Gotta get on Frank’s foursome next year.) To top it all off the people at Cardinal came through again with a great meal to end a truly wonderful day.

Joe and Silvia Rizzuto and their band of volunteers made sure that everything went off without a hitch. Whether they were working on registration, photography, dinner or raffles this day couldn’t happen without them, and as usual, the tenth turned out to be the most talked about hole of the day. Maybe it had something to do with the porchetta station there – handled, as always, with their usual charm and humour by the Tari family.

Duke, the Toronto Marlies mascot, turned up as well doing his best Happy Gilmore imitation. When someone needed a little help with their tee shot he was only too willing to oblige. What exactly was it that he used to tee up the ball? He also graciously took the time to pose for pictures with all the golfers. Thanks Duke.
