City of Toronto Pays Tribute to SHI-2026

At the Toronto City Council meeting on May 20, 2026, James Pasternak rose to pay tribute to the Grandravine Tornadoes for hosting the 2026 Special Hockey International Tournament, shining a well-deserved spotlight on an organization that continues to make the city proud.

He spoke about the spirit of sportsmanship, inclusion, and community that defines the tournament, which welcomed 56 teams and 865 athletes from Canada, the United States, and England in a wonderful celebration of the game.

He also praised the dozens of volunteers whose energy, generosity, and hard work helped bring this incredible event to life.

Councillor Pasternak also recognized the proud history of Grandravine Special Hockey, which dates back to 1980, and the lasting impact it has had on the North York community and across Toronto.

When he finished speaking, the entire City Council rose to give the Grandravine faithful in attendance a standing ovation—an especially meaningful gesture that Councillor Pasternak noted is a rare sight in council chambers.
